However, If you now click on the header or title bar above, or on the download icon you will redirect you to the main download area. To access the developers area simply click on the little dude in the white coat, 5th icon from the left.

Nice pretty buttons now links to the developers.

CopyDVD

Earlier in the year I made a video of a golfing trip with a few of my mates. It was too big to burn to a single layer DVD so I bought some dual layer DVD. The problem was I couldn't manage to make copies of it for my mates, so I made my own application to do the job.

The good thing about Puppy is, it has all the required software included. All I had to do was build a very simple GUI to make it easy to drive.

There are no bells and whistles but it works fine for me on Lucid-525. It copies and burns both single and dual layer DVD. Download here

Instructions:
1.   Place the DVD to copy in the DVD drive and wait for the DVD icon to appear on the desktop.
2.   You will find CopyDVD at Menu>Utility>General Utilities>CopyDVD
3.   Click on the copy icon. This will create an ISO of your DVD in /mnt/home. The name of the ISO is your.iso. Remember to rename it if you would like to keep it as it will be over written next time you copy a DVD. It will take some time before the disk activity stops. Please be patient. Once copying has completed, remove the source DVD and place a blank DVD in the drive. It must have the same or greater capacity than the source DVD.
4.   Click on the burn icon and a new identical DVD will be created.

Distribution Page

I have revamped my distribution or ISO page.

When you now click on the DVD icon displaying ISO you will be presented with a table with links to many distributions. In many cases I have provided links to the following:

Devx SFS files for developers
Pets files for the appropriate distribution
A link to send a Private Message to the developer on the Murga forums
A help link that will redirect you to the appropriate forum thread
Kernel source files

It's pretty much a One Stop Shop.

VirtualBox

Lately I have been playing with VirtualBox. This is a great piece of software. It allows you to setup virtual computers so you can run multiple operating systems at the same time.

You start with a host operating system which in my case is Lucid Puppy 525. I then installed VirtualBox. VB allows you to install many different OS. You can run them one at a time or more than one at a time. It's a very nice way to test a new OS.

What a few of us do, mainly CatDude, Dpup5520, Stripe and myself, we connect via Psip so we can communicate with each other and all test the same OS at the same time. This is a great shared learning experience. As they say, four heads are better than one. This is a great way to test and solve problems and it's also a lot of fun.

Now just to add to this great experience we have a shared DropBox account so we can share information and files. One person drops a file into his local folder and we can all see and share it. This is much better than having to manually upload files to a server so the others can download it or email it to each other.

Psip - Puppy Phone

There have been some radical improvements to Psip lately since jamesbond has come on board.

He has completely rewritten the entire Graphical User Interface. Instead of about 30 files now there is one. The interface is written in the C++ language integrated with glade.

The layout is very similar to that of the 0.12 and 0.26 versions. If you are using old hardware, say more than 8 years then stick with the above 0.26.

The newer Psip also requires later kernels so the 4 series of Puppies are unlikely to work.

We are pretty happy with version 1.2 and it has been compiled for different versions of the later Puppies. See here:

I have just released Puppy Help 101.

It was written to compliment Lucid Puppy 525.

It's an interactive tutorial which works on the live Puppy Operating System. It also provides a lot of links to other resources such as the Puppy Linux Forums.

I spent most of the day on self education. I learned how to remaster a puppy distribution while keeping playdayz and 01micko straight to desktop graphics intact.

I also learned how to create a bootable distro from scratch. It's been a good day.

playdayz has made available a pet package that fixes a few small bugs in the great lupu-525.iso distribution. It's called Instant Update. See below for details.

The Diff file can be applied to the original lupu-525.iso file by using Xdelta file difference manager. Menu>Utilities>Xdelta file difference manager

Drag the lupu-525.iso file into the top field, the diff file into the second field, press Generate and a new lupu-525u.iso will be created.

How cool is that. Anyone can be smart with Puppy.

His new IcePuppy is pretty cool and has most of my favourite programs included.

He is also using a new later kernel which seems to be behaving itself quite well.

It's nice to have a long break and this year including ANZAC day totals five days.

I have been trying to get Openshot (video editing software) to work properly. It is very easy to drive but for some reason the sound gets out of sync with the video. The video I made is 1h 50m long so by the time it gets to the end the sync is out by about 1 or 2 seconds, not a lot but very annoying. It looks silly when you can hear the golf ball being struck about 1 second before you see it. It's sort of the wrong way around when you consider light travels faster than sound.

Anyway my next attempt will be to make about 15 minutes clips them together join them using Pburn. Hopefully the sync will remain in tact for each 15 minute clip.

There has also been some discussion of the forums with regards to Lucid Puppy 5.2.5 not being able to save a savefile to the CD/DVD. I have been having the same problem recently but I think I may have discovered my fault. I may not have been burning the CD as multisession. Once I did, all worked as expected.

I hadn't noticed the issue when installing puppy 5.2.5 to a USB flash drive as I normally do it manually which always works.

Lucid Puppy 5.2

Lucid Puppy has been released for a little while now and is performing brilliantly for most. Playdayz and 01micko did a great job on this distribution. Well done guys.

Also, congratulations to all of the people testing, you did a great job too.

IRC

Last night I spent a bit of time playing with IRC, something I haven't bothered with before. I was quite impressed just how well it works. I started with Pidgin which is quite good and even did a couple of file transfers with brown_mouse.

I then tried Xchat, another nice package. Both seem to perform quite well.

The third I tried was ChatZilla which is actually bundled with the Seamonkey suite. It also worked quite well. Of the three I think I like Pidgin the best but that's not to say the others were no good, in fact they were very good.

One more tick for the bucket list.

Lucid Puppy 5.1 released

Playdayz and 01micko have released Lucid Puppy 5.1

This is a great release which boots straight to the desktop and will connect automatically to the internet with a wired network internet connection.

It has many new features to play with such as Quickpet.

Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

From time to time you may find new files from jemimah and CatDude placed on this server.

jemimah is about to release puppeee which has been in development for some time and been involved in some very vigorous testing.

It's a very complete and stable operating system for the eeepc computer. If you have an eeepc then do yourself a favour and give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Folder Encryption

Folder Encryption is a very useful tool that allows you to encrypt folders. Simply right mouse click on a folder you wish to encrypt, add a password then click on close folder to secure the folder. This package was developed by jamesbond.

Pet Packages

The pet list is slowly growing. Most of the pets I have added are my favourites. The plan is not to include what is already in the standard puppy distribution but I'm sure a few will slip in as not everyone uses the standard puppy. For the moment I am using tazocs Lighthouse pupp 443 and it's fantastic.

Hi,

I have set this site up to support the Puppy Linux community. At the time of writing Eric (caneri) was having a number of issues with his hosting service. My intent is not to replace Eric's site, rather suppliment it.

At the moment there are not many files to download on this site. This will increase over time and when I have the time to populate it.

On the right hand side you will see a heading called Links, this will take you to various pages where files can be downloaded.

I haven't fully decided how I will segregate the files but for the moment I am only supporting puppy 4.3.1 and later series.

Suggestions are welcome.
